Acupuncture Cost in Toronto: $70 per Session and Insurance Coverage

In short

From October 26, 2026 to January 1, 2027, Margo’s Clinic at 248 Shuter St. in downtown Toronto offers acupuncture at a promotional price of $70 per session (regular price $90). Extended health benefit plans typically cover 80% to 100% of the cost of acupuncture from a registered acupuncturist, up to your plan’s limits, so with coverage you may pay between $0 and $14 per session. The first consultation is free.

“How much will it cost, and will my insurance pay for it?” Most people ask both questions before they book acupuncture. Here are the answers for Margo’s Clinic, including the promotion that runs from October 26 to January 1.

Promotion Until January 1: $70 per Session (Regular $90)

  • Promotional price: from October 26, 2026 to January 1, 2027, each acupuncture session at Margo’s Clinic is $70 instead of the regular $90. If you start treatment by January 1, you keep the $70 price until your treatment is finished.
  • Acupuncture only: the promotional price applies to acupuncture sessions. Other services are not included.
  • Free first visit: the initial consultation, including an Electro-Meridian Imaging assessment, stays free.
  • No surprises: Margo explains your treatment plan and the fee before any treatment begins.
  • Number of sessions: the number and frequency of treatments are determined during the initial consultation. A few programs have a set course, such as the weight loss program (2–3 weeks of daily visits, Monday to Friday) and anxiety or depression (1–2 weeks of daily visits).

Does Insurance Cover Acupuncture in Ontario?

OHIP does not cover acupuncture at a private clinic, but most extended health benefit plans do. These are the plans you get through an employer, a union, a school or a private insurer. They typically cover 80% to 100% of the cost of acupuncture, as long as the treatment is provided by a registered acupuncturist.

Margaryta “Margo” Goncharenko is a Registered Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioner and Registered Acupuncturist (R. TCMP, R. Ac) with the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of Ontario (CTCMPAO), registration no. 1267, so her treatments qualify under plans that cover a registered acupuncturist.

Your plan sets the limits. Check these four things in your benefits booklet or app:

  • Coverage percentage: usually 80% to 100%.
  • Annual maximum: often $500 to $1,000 a year for acupuncture, sometimes shared with other paramedical services.
  • Per-visit maximum: some plans cap the amount paid for each session.
  • Referral: some plans only reimburse with a doctor’s referral. You do not need a referral to book at the clinic.

These amounts apply until you reach your plan’s annual or per-visit maximum. For example, a plan with a $500 annual maximum at 100% coverage pays for 7 sessions ($490) in a year. If you also have a Health Spending Account, you may be able to claim the part your plan does not cover.

How to Claim Your Sessions

  1. Check your plan for acupuncture coverage, the percentage, the maximums and whether you need a referral.
  2. Pay for your session at the clinic.
  3. Keep your receipt. Receipts are provided for extended health insurance claims and show Margo’s name, designation and CTCMPAO registration number.
  4. Submit the receipt through your insurer’s app or website.

The free consultation takes about 30 to 45 minutes. Margo reviews your health history, does an Electro-Meridian Imaging assessment and recommends a treatment plan, with the fee, before you decide anything.
